Smc Fan Controller For Mac
The system management controller (SMC) is a chip in your intel-based Mac, which plays significant roles in controlling thermal and power management, keyboards and other peripherals, battery charging, video mode switching and cooling fans, sleep and wake, hibernation,Power buttons and LED indicators.
As one who uses constantly running air purifiers in my home/work office, I know that these type of fans run for years with no issues. They are designed to run 24-7-365 and never wear out for years. I know Apple uses the same quality type fans or even superior, so I never worry about replacing fans prematurely in my MacBook. Moreover, even if I needed to in two or three years, that's a fraction in cost of replacing my SSD or multi core processors due to heat, not to mention that cooler processors run infinitely better than overheated ones. All high graphic use 3D gamers know this, I'm told.
SmcFanControl also doesn't override the automatic settings in your Mac so that your fans will kick-in when the CPU needs them. Apart from this, smcFanControl also displays the temperature and fan speed in the menu bar, lets you set different minimum speeds for every fan separately and alters them accordingly when the power source changes. The best 'Fan Control' software? Thread starter iMacBoy; Start date Feb 2. I have tried 'SMCfanControl' and 'Fan Control for Mac' but they are way to complicated, all i want is a simple app to set the speed of my HDD fan too about 1600rpm, and it will keep it at that when ever i boot up mac etc. Until i tell it to stop. Everything was. Apple fan control is via hardware (SMC services) which works via the core OS (and not controllable by the user). Apple does not offer any fan control application to access it. Apple uses thermal sensors and tachometers built into the fans to monitor both the temp of different things running in your system and how fast the fans need to run to remove the heat buildup dynamically. SmcFanControl controls the fans of every Intel Mac to make it run cooler. SmcFanControl lets the user set the minimum speed of the build in fans. So you can increase your minimum fan speed to make your Intel Mac run cooler. However in order not to damage your machines smcFanControl doesn't let you set a minimum speed to a value below Apple's. I looked for another option and found Macs Fan Control (CrystalIdea) and when I was setting the preferences, you could hear the fans ramp up. Big fan of SMC, been using it for years, and seems. Nov 22, 2007 I upped the fan speeds (CPU 2000, HDD 2500, ODD 1500). The machine runs a tad cooler, but I am wondering if this was a safe thing to do. If it is, I am wondering what the optimal fan speeds are for my particular iMac. Does anyone know? I would really appreciate the advice. If it's not safe, I will of course remove smcFan Control.

With smc Fan Control, you can monitor the temperature levels and fan speed modes in your Mac and manage temperature according to your needs. You can not only set desired minimal fans speeds, but also create separate presets for specific use-case scenarios, for example, turn on stronger cooling when you are using your Mac for video rendering, 3D modeling or gaming, and then reduce cooling when you are browsing or working with text files.
Utilizing streamlined tools and eye-catching visual reporting, you can optimize fan curves and reduce the overall system temperature to the levels where you Mac will function optimally. It is important to note that you can control the fan speed of your MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air laptops when they are placed on a cooling stand.
Installation and Use
smcFanControl comes in a lightweight package that can be quickly installed on any modern Mac OS X 10.7 or later that runs on Intel CPU. Upon firing the app, you will notice a brand-new icon in your system status bar, with the two most important real-time readings for CPU temperature and speed of the main PCU fan. Clicking on that reading will drop a large menu listing that will showcase the readings from all the other fans in your system, a Preset selector and a Preferences button.
In the separate Preference window, you can set up each of your cooling presets (with minimal speed assigned to each of the detected fans), configure menubar items and their color, and switch to the desired temperature unit (Celsius or Fahrenheit). At the bottom of the Preferences window, you can also set up the way this app will start – auto start every time with system boot, or automatically start when specific events are detected (switch to battery power, AC-power or charging).
